This kshetra was originally situated at Vamanjoor of Bangra Manjeshwar village However in 1964 it was shifted to Uppala Alla ) where it is presently situated. At Bangra Manjeshwara this was a little ahead of and opposite Shasthaveshwara Temple. Bangra Manjeshwara was a central place and Shasthaveshwara was the main deity of Bangarasas who were ruling the surrounding 13 villages. There were many Moyas in service at the palace of the Bangarasas These Moyas built their houses nearby and started living in Vamanjoor. Aila and Mallangai villages. They also built gudis nearby for the worship of Bhagawathis. In the travelogue of Bhagawathis mention is made of them residing in the vicinity of Shasthaveshwara. Travelling from Adoor they reach Vittala and create a kshetra there. Thereafter they travel to Vamanjbor There they express their wish to stay in the vicinity of Shasthaveshwara and accordingly requested him for permission In spite of waiting for quite some time they did not receive any favourable response This angered the Bhagawathis and as a result there were many calamities in the surrounding area. Even the people at the palace experienced strange happenings This prompted the King to consult the jyothishis from whom he learnt that 72 dews had come from above to visit the area known as Parashurama Srishti and out of these five Bhagawathis and their entourage wanted to stay in this area.
Simultaneously a Moya youth who was in service at the palace also got possessed of Bhagawath is and uttered the same information. This convinced the King and he agreed to build a gudt for these Bhagawathis. Hence a place in front of the Shasthaveshwara temple and to the right was chosen and the Sthanam was built facing the temple and also facing east In due course it became so famous that a saying that “after Oriyar Kavu it is only Vamanjoor Kavu” came into effect. For well over 100 years Bhagawathis were worshipped at Vamanjoor. This was also the centre place to hold the gathering of 11 Sthana people In course of time Moya households at Vamanjoor dwindled Most of them, for convenience sake shifted to places like Uppala. Aila. etc. Even then they used to come to Vamanjoor regularly and attend poop and other festivals there. Later on they thought of building the Sthanam nearby to their places of dwelling. They got approval to this through Ashtamangala and from Bhagawathi darshana. Hence in 1964 the Sthanam was shifted to its present location.
Thre were many Moya households already existing at Aila. The famous Durgaparameshwan idol being worshipped at the nearby temple was also known as ‘Aila Bhagawathi’ Legend has it that this idol was found by Moyas in the sea and hence there is a strong social bond existing between this temple and the Moya community of the area The main deity at Vamanjoor Sthanam is Uchholi Kadavu Bhagawathi It is the belief that Uchholi Kadavu Bhagawathi is Mangala, Punnakal Bhagawathi is Chandra and Aamutti Bhagawathi is Shukra Besides these, Kallangara Chamundi, Mecheri Chamundi as well as Maleyala Chamundi too reside here. Tuludaiva Panjurli said to have come from Vittala rs also here. But Babbarya is not there They worship Babbarya at Berika When the new Sthanam was built at Aila, Vishnumoorthi Sthana too was built. There is no practice of holding Nadavali every year ‘Tulapath’ is observed here as ‘Tiriputhart’. Three days recitation of Baleendra’s story is done and his arrival is welcomed ceremoniously There is no evidence of Kaliyata Mahotsava ever being held here There are two other Kutumba Sthanas belonging to Cherop Moya and Aatingere Maya Kutumbas in existence at Alla as well.
